Terms of Use

ONEMILLIONNOTES™ (https://onemillionnotes.com) is a public archive where people can submit notes to be reviewed and, if approved, published as part of a living global record.

Please read these Terms of Use before submitting. We ask you to agree to them before you continue to checkout, including the social media and merchandise permission in section 5.

You agree not to use ONEMILLIONNOTES™ to submit or share content that is:

• unlawful, abusive, harmful, or threatening
• hateful, harassing, or targeted abuse
• spam, scams, or deceptive promotional material
• impersonating another person or organisation
• sexually exploitative
• private or personal information about others without permission

You are responsible for what you submit. Do not use the site in any way that could harm others, overload the service, or interfere with its operation.

If your note is approved, it may be shown publicly on ONEMILLIONNOTES™, including in:

• Latest entries
• the public archive
• the globe and map
• public note pages

Only submit content you are comfortable being public. Do not include private addresses, phone numbers, financial details, or other sensitive personal information in your note.

All notes may be reviewed before publication. ONEMILLIONNOTES™ may approve, reject, hide, remove, or refuse notes at its discretion.

Moderation focuses on safety, legality, spam prevention, and protecting the archive. The guiding principle is:

The archive can be honest. It cannot be hostile.

A rejected note is not published in the public archive. Payment and refund terms are explained in our Refund Policy.

You keep ownership of the words you submit. Your official note number identifies your approved entry; it does not transfer your copyright to us or give you ownership of the website or its branding.

By agreeing to these terms and submitting a note, you grant ONEMILLIONNOTES™ a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, reproduce, display and publish your note in the archive. If your note is approved, this licence also lets us:

• post and share your note on our social media accounts, including promotional posts
• print your note on merchandise, including clothing, prints and other products that we sell
• use your note in marketing for the project and that merchandise

These uses may be commercial. We do not need to ask for further permission or pay a royalty or share of sales for uses covered by this licence. We may change the layout, typography or size, or use an excerpt, without materially misrepresenting your words. We may allow social platforms and production partners to use the content only as needed to publish, promote or produce it for us.

For social posts and merchandise, this permission covers your approved note text and public note number. It does not permit us to publish your checkout email, private payment details or private account information. We will seek separate permission before including your display name or submitted location in those uses. Information you include in the note text itself may be reproduced, so do not include sensitive personal details.

You confirm that you wrote the content or have all permissions needed to submit it and grant this licence. Do not submit someone else's writing or private information without permission.

You can contact support@onemillionnotes.com to request removal or discuss stopping future reuse. We will assess your request and respect any applicable legal rights. Removing a note from the archive does not automatically recall products already sold or copies independently shared by others. This copyright licence does not waive your data protection or other statutory rights.

The social media and merchandise permission in this version applies to submissions made after you accept it. We do not treat older submissions as having automatically agreed to this expanded permission; separate permission is needed for those uses.

Do not submit content that includes or promotes:

• threats or encouragement of violence
• hate speech or targeted abuse
• harassment or bullying
• doxxing or personal information about others
• sexual content involving minors
• illegal activity or illegal content
• spam, scams, or promotional links
• impersonation
• bot or junk submissions

ONEMILLIONNOTES™ may remove content and refuse service where these rules are breached.

Submitting a note may require a small payment to help operate the project and fund its stated impact commitments.

Optional creator support — including the £3 “buy me a coffee” tier — is separate from note publication. It is optional support for the creator and the wider project, not a requirement to leave a note in the archive.

Stripe processes payments. For checkouts that authorise payment, your card has a temporary hold for the full selected amount, including optional creator support. By completing checkout you authorise us to collect that amount when your note is approved. If your note is rejected or the hold expires before collection, the hold is released and your note is not published. Your bank may take time to remove a released hold. Earlier checkouts that collected payment immediately remain covered by our refund policy. Official public note numbers are assigned only after approval; a number shown before approval is a preview, not a reservation. See our Refund Policy for refund terms.

ONEMILLIONNOTES™ publishes impact counters based on the project's stated funding rules:

• Every 50 approved public notes allocates £1 toward Brazil reforestation through Ecologi, capped at £20,000.
• Every 100 approved public notes allocates £3 toward WaterAid, capped at £30,000.
• Every 100th note triggers both commitments (£4 total). Both targets are reached at 1,000,000 approved public notes, with a combined cap of £50,000.

Counters show milestone funding commitments, not verified donations paid, trees planted, or delivery on a specific date. Pending, rejected and non-public notes do not count. Optional support does not add extra notes. Brazil-specific project availability and pricing are not yet confirmed; no particular number of trees is promised.

This is not a claim of official partnership, endorsement, or charity status with Ecologi or WaterAid.

This model replaces the previous published model for future commitments from its effective publication. It does not cancel or reduce obligations already accrued under earlier promises, including UK planting commitments. Any earlier obligations and payments must be reconciled separately; these model counters are not a historical payment ledger.

ONEMILLIONNOTES™ may change, pause, update, or take the site offline at any time. Features, design, and archive presentation may evolve as the project develops.

We do not guarantee uninterrupted access to the website or that any particular note will remain visible forever.

Notes reflect their contributors' views. They are not personalised professional advice. We remain responsible for the service to the extent required by applicable law.

Nothing in these terms limits your statutory consumer rights or excludes liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law.

We may update these Terms of Use from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will change when we do. The version you accept when submitting governs that submission. A later update does not automatically expand the permissions you granted for an earlier note.
