A social experiment in human notes
One Million Notes is a public archive built around a simple idea: one million notes, written by humans, from around the world.
Each note becomes part of a growing global record — a sentence, a memory, a thought, a confession, a place, a moment. Together, the notes create a living archive of real words from real people.
The project is also transparent about its ambition. It is inspired in part by The Million Dollar Homepage: a simple internet idea that turned a small piece of digital space into something people wanted to be part of.
One Million Notes is not trying to hide the fact that it aims to generate funds. The difference is that every note also becomes part of a public archive, and as the archive grows, so does the potential impact behind it.
As the archive grows
If the project is successful, the note count will help fund environmental impact as it grows.
The current impact model is:
- 10 notesfund 1 tree in Brazil
- 50 notesfund 1 tree in the United Kingdom
- 100 notesfund a £10 donation to WaterAid
The goal is simple: turn a global archive of human notes into something that also supports the world outside the screen.
This is not a claim of official partnership, endorsement, or confirmed planting. Optional creator support and custom donations can also help support the wider project impact, but they do not increase the public note count. Each submitted note still counts as one note in the archive.
Why notes?
A note is small, but it can carry a lot.
It can be serious, funny, anonymous, personal, hopeful, strange, or completely ordinary. The value is in the collection: one million small pieces of human language, mapped across the globe and preserved in public.
This is not a social media feed. It is not about likes, followers, or algorithms. It is a public text archive.

Why is there a £1 paywall?
The £1 paywall exists to prevent bots and spam, but it also makes each note more intentional. I want real people to write real words. The small payment helps protect the archive, supports the operational costs of the website, and gives each note a little more meaning. It turns the act of leaving a note into a deliberate contribution, not just another free comment box on the internet.
How does supporting the creator work?
When you choose to buy me a coffee or add a custom donation, you are helping me fund the next stages of this project and future creative work. Creator support is optional. The main action is still leaving a note and becoming part of the archive. If you are into the project, have found value in reading the notes, or want to support the idea with more passion, you can choose to contribute more. Custom donations also help make it possible to offer ONEMILLIONNOTES™ merchandise at a lower price without compromising quality.
Can I send more than one note?
Yes. You can send more than one note. Each note is a separate transaction and can be connected to any location you choose. You do not have to be physically standing there. It could be where you are now, where you were born, somewhere you visited, somewhere you miss, or somewhere connected to a memory. That choice is part of the note.
Do I have to use my real name?
No. You can use your name or leave the note anonymous. If no name is added, the note will appear as Anonymous. The project is about the words and the location, not forcing people to reveal who they are.
What happens when I submit a note?
After you submit a note, it may be reviewed before appearing publicly. Approved notes can appear in the public archive, on the globe, and on their own note page. Pending, rejected, or unapproved notes should never appear publicly.
Is this mainly a charity project?
No. ONEMILLIONNOTES™️ is first a public archive and social experiment. The environmental impact model is part of the project, but the main idea is still the archive: one million human-written notes from around the world. If the project grows, the impact grows with it.
